1 Samuel 1-7
All about Samuel.  The first chapters relate to when Israel’s leaders were unfaithful to God so he rose up new leaders for the people.  Samuel was born to a woman named Hannah, who had long been childless, and Samuel became an assistant to Eli a priest, being taught about the lord was not common back then.  One night God told Samuel that Eli’s family would be condemned because of their corruption.

1Sa 3:11 And Jehovah said to Samuel, Behold! I am doing a thing in Israel at which the two     ears of every one hearing it shall tingle.
1Sa 3:12 In that day I will confirm to Eli all that I have spoken to his house, beginning and making an end.
1Sa 3:13 And I declare to him that I am judging his house forever, for the iniquity which he has known; for his sons have been making themselves vile, and he has not restrained them.
1Sa 3:14 And so I have sworn to the house of Eli, the iniquity of the house of Eli shall not be atoned for, by sacrifice or by offering, until forever.

Eli’s sons were killed in battle and the loss of the ark of covenant to the Philistine’s and Eli himself died when he heard of the terrible defeat.  It was there 7 months then returned after they realized, by the bad things that happened to them, God did not want it there 20 years it stayed there. When Samuel was older, he gathered the Israelites assemble them and told them that God will intercede to victory against the Philistines. God heard their cry and with a great thunder shook the Philistines they were afraid and ran away.

1 Samuel 8-14
All about Saul.  When Samuel’s own sons proved faithless, the people wanted a king to rule them they were not rejecting Samuel but the Lord as their king. God told Samuel what would happen if he appoints a king as they desire and told them but they refused to listen.  Samuel anointed Saul to be the first king over Israel, who was looking for donkeys that were lost and came to their village to ask the seer were to look for them. Saul led Israel to victory in battle 30030 thousand strong. Samuel bows out in style. After 42 years over Israel Saul took a few thousand men to fight the Philistine’s but ended up in hiding instead for 7 days. But he wrongly offered sacrifices and violated God’s command. Therefore, Samuel warned that the kingdom would be taken away from Saul. Saul and Jonathan “son of Saul” attacks the Philistines with farm implements. Jonathan and his armor bearer snuck out to do battle on their own. They slain 20 men, before Samuel could get there, than God sent panic over their whole army and shook the ground. The lord rescued the Israelites that day. After battle they were hungry they had taken an oath not to eat until evening. But Jonathan did not here this and tasted some honey and tempting the other men. His men rescued him from death.
